Description: Clan of the Dragon / Ryuu Ichizoku How a Dragon Serves: Clan of the Dragon is different from most every other Group or Unit within LARPs. It’s focus is on aiding/improving the culture and the sport. It can be on a personal level or a broad scope. In combat as warrior or healer; or out of combat as a medic, herald, water giver…even security or consoling someone in pain. The goal is not to limit the member into a certain Path; but to insure whatever Path is chosen that the member does so with Honor and sincerity. That they represent the Clan and Themselves well. Sword or icepack has equal value. It is the level of conviction and dedication, not the vehicle of that conviction or dedication that matter. These actions are evaluated by all Dragons, Wyrms and the Great Wyrm, as accomplishments and Status within the Clan are noted and recognized (including, but not limited to): Volunteer to assist in varying tasks at the event (troll, security, herald, other support, etc) Fight afield in support of others Combat Healers Public Relations: Conventions, Panels, Demonstrations Assist in training local units through combat experience and demonstration
History: Ryuumichi (Dragon Path/Way) As Dragons of the True Way, we constantly reflect on the Discipline of Service, and insure we have the Conviction to follow through…the Path is our Calling. The Path of the Dragon is one of ever-giving service. That service is not limited to the Clan…a dragon does not subscribe simply to title or rank, clan or territory. In the ancient times, before Toyotomi Hideyoshi limited the Samurai in both number and arms, tied them down to liege and lord (1585 - 1598)…the Samurai served the land and the people. They were the culture’s avenging angels…the Way of Blade and Bow guiding their Path. The Way was the predecessor to modern Bushido. Many of the loyalty factors that are interpreted to be tied to “lord” were in fact social constraints, designed to prevent Bushido from justifying a Samurai from removing corrupt powers causing harm to the land/people (i.e.: basis for the movie Seven Samurai). The True Path of the Way insures that the Spirit of the law was not warped by the letter or enforcers of it. We as Dragons follow the True Path. We follow the Way…the original version of Bushido. While loyal to our Leaders, we WILL NOT act against the best interests of our people. We will find every way possible to serve within the guidelines of our culture. We will not fail to act if a way cannot be found to stay within those lines…justice MUST be served. Follow Loyally: find every means to act within our service (chugi - loyalty) Seek the Truth: this single concept allows us to use the right action in the right place at the right time. Without this, we are simple tools of our culture…and injustice through greed will overtake what we seek to protect (yu - courage, gi - rectitude) Accept Responsibility for ALL Actions: choose wisely (makoto – honesty, meiyo – honor) Value Respect before Rank: Rank or Station is what allows a Dragon to increase the potential to positively affect his/her surroundings. NEVER sacrifice respect for what is truly right to preserve one’s own rank/station. Be willing to sacrifice your status/station to do what is right. (rei – respect, jin – benevolence) Personal Honor balanced with Humility: Displays of calling rank upon others is in its nature disrespectful. Choose the Path of respect and politeness. Only in the pursuit of truth and justice is one able to abandon this principle…and only if there is no other way. (Bushido) The weapons of warriors are described within the traditional methods of a dragon’s attack: Blue/Min Reds Weapons = Teeth & Claws Yari/Spears, Polearms = Tail Bow = Breath Weapon Javelins = Spines Shields = Wing Armor = Scales/Hide
