Description:
The House of Avalon is dedicated to studying and recreating the people of the Late Roman and Romano-British period for public demonstrations, education and living history displays. Our garb and equipment are all carefully researched and reconstructed for the utmost in authenticity. We will cover all aspects of life in Britain during the 4th through 6th centuries AD, including both military and civilian portrayals. Weekly gatherings are planned, where members will work on their kit and practice their drills and fighting if they so wish with the Household’s Legion. The Pater and Mater will do everything in their power to help at least with garbing the members of the Household with their first tunics. But after that, it is expected for each member to gather their own kit according to Household guidelines. There are several levels in the Household. The highest is Pater and Mater (Father and Mother), which is the Master and Mistress of the Household. Next are Frater and Soror (Brother and Sister). The lowest full time members are Filius and Filia (Son and Daughter). All of those that initially join however, are titled Nepos or Neptis (Grandson/Nephew or Granddaughter/Niece). Those who wish to remain simply associate members of the Household will retain the title of Nepos or Neptis.
History:
Created by M. Artorius and Bertrada on July 25th, 2007 If you have any doubts if this was a truly wondrous and heroic age, just look at the various myths that were borne from this era. King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, Beowulf, the Volsunga saga/Nibelungenlied (the story Lord of the Rings is based off of), and so forth. It is also a very dynamic time historically, as the western half of the Roman Empire fell; the Germanic migrations were in full swing, a time of the Huns and Attila, a time when the eastern Roman Empire attempted to retake the fallen west, and so forth.
