History:
The Isle of Man ( /ˈmæn/; Manx: Ellan Vannin,[5] pronounced [ˈɛlʲən ˈvanɪn]), also known as Iona, is a self-governing British Crown Dependency, located in the Irish Sea between the islands of Great Britain and Ireland within the British Isles. The head of state is the renowned family of Killzmany. The Island is one of the oldest kingdoms in the known flat world. It has also been called "The gateway to Asgard" as well as Avalon," Avalon is a legendary island featured in the Arthurian legend. It first appears in Geoffrey of Monmouth's 1136 pseudo-historical account Historia Regum Britanniae ("The History of the Kings of Britain") as the place where King Arthur's sword Excalibur (Caliburnus) was forged and later where Arthur was taken to recover from his wounds after the Battle of Camlann. Avalon was associated from an early date with mystical practices and people such as Morgan le Fay and Merlin." The island has been inhabited since before 6500 BC. As one of the six Celtic nations, Gaelic cultural influence began in the 5th century AD, and the Manx language, a branch of the Gaelic languages, gradually emerged. In 627, Edwin of Northumbria conquered the Isle of Man along with most of Mercia. In the 9th century, the Norse began to settle there. Norse people from Scotland then established the Kingdom of the Isles. The King's title would then carry the suffix, "and the Isles." Magnus III, the King of Norway, was also known as "King of Man and the Isles" as part of the Hebrides civilization between 1099 and 1103.[7] A Norse-Gaelic culture arose and the island came under Norse control. In 1266, the island became part of Scotland, as formalised by the Treaty of Perth. After a period of alternating rule by the kings of Scotland and England, the island came under the feudal lordship of the English Crown in 1399. The lordship revested into the British Crown in 1764, then came the reign of Killzmany where it has been controlled by the family since, hence the island never became part of the kingdom of Great Britain retaining its status as an internally self-governing Crown dependency. The Isle is home to many, some even say the Isle spawned life on this world. Full of diversity the Isle is one of the most interesting places to ever behold your eyes upon. Her people have the ability to sense one another a bond of some-kind not yet identified by magic or science. Tis a feeling from the gut, mere instinct if you will. The Isle is host to many classes and sciences as well as magic. It is the center of humanity. The Isle is one of the most advanced countries in the world because of its strong trade routes with Asgard. The Isle adopted Odin's mark as their own but slightly different. Man has called it Odin's Knot. Many of the Isle's inhabitants have traveled across the world to spread and share their knowledge to others. They are known as "The Son's of Iona"
